Lost In The Forest... The Collection

Finally! Something that represents my lifelong goal! I had a thought a while ago that I was operating under the delusion that I could make a living by drawing bunny rabbits. I mean, I'm good at it. Everyone scoffs at me when I tell them that I think that drawing bunnies is a viable career option, but I'll show them!

These darling (hand painted, no less!) startled jackrabbit brooches are available now in my etsy shop. There are only five of each style and each one has its own completely unique personality because each one was lovingly handcrafted by me! Don't let my dream die... you know what to do.

You Little Nut

Shane's got the flu, and he's all snuggled up in his brown hoodie looking all cute, so I was calling him a little hazelnut. He told me that it didn't make any sense. I guess he was right. I should have been calling him a little chestnut.

They're totally twins right?

Shwarma Swarms

Just a few disturbing sights I've witnessed lately.

OH WOW! I think they were going for a "cotton candy" thing with the fiberglass insulation, but I think it comes off looking like ham on a stick. So gross.

The second photo is indeed, NOT a flock of birds... it is a swarm of mutant mosquitoes that were congregating outside my living room window! So scary!

In Like A Lion, Out Like A Lamb

I've decided that hats will help everyone to ring in the spring season with style! I'm offering my age of innocence hat and my mademoiselle de la lune hat at a discount until March 1.

I Know You Are, But What Am I?

Hooo ya! Ambika comes through with an immaturity list! Yah!
Seven things about me that make me immature:

This is a picture of me in my jammies at my parents' house.

1) I freaking LOVE poo humor!

2) I say things like "freaking". I pretty much speak in "valley", like, half of the time.

3) I buy children's books on a regular basis... and not just for the pictures!

4) I will sneak into the kitchen to secretly eat cookies or candies or chips when my boyfriend is home, and we're deciding what to do for dinner. He always catches me... and wrestles my junkfood away. :(

5) I use emoticons in correspondence :P... and cyber-acronyms in real life OH EHM GEE! EL OH EL! (I'm kind of annoying)

6) I sleep with a stuffed animal.

7) If I don't want to do something, I totally whine about it and get pouty.

p.s.- I'm totally 32 years old!

Ships Ahoy!

I've added some new earrings to my etsy shop! There's a few more designs there as well, so why not go and have a look. Shiver me timbers!!!

Heavens To Betsy!

Holy Moses! If this isn't the greatest anachronism known to man! It's the Nagy Magical-Movable-Type Pixello-Dynamotronic Computational Engine, otherwise known as a computer. A really big, wooden computer.

The inventor of this charming interpretation says that "while charming in its reticence, the buzzing beige rectangle under a desk hardly seems a fitting aesthetic legacy for what is inarguably the most important invention of the last 50 years." Sounds reasonable doesn't it? So he has employed some good old fashioned anachronism (pun intended) to "create a false historical heritage for the modern computer".

I stumbled upon the website of Richard R. Nagy who retrofits modern inventions with the pomp and circumstance of the Golden Age of Industry. He makes the new... old again. Also check out his laptop which is to die for, and his made to order custom keyboards. If I had a few hundred dollars just lying around I would totally be commissioning something!

The Circle Of Death

My good friend Jenn just sent me a link to The Story Of Stuff. You need about 20 minutes but its worth it. This is why it is so important to buy handmade and recycle, and buy organic, and all that other save the planet stuff.

Desperately Seeking

I picked up this little shallow bowl yesterday at a thrift store and was planning on using it for sorting my beads. I was drawn to the colours and sweet modern floral pattern. The more I stare at it, the more I want a whole set! I don't know what the pattern is called and my internet search of "Swinnertons Staffordshire" brought up loads of lovely things; including my Mum's old china pattern (I always felt like my dinner was watching me!), but nothing of this particular pattern. Does anyone out there know what it is called? I will love you forever if you know the answer!

Spread The Love

I was reminded of my love for Mary Blair's animation and illustration by a post at orange you lucky the other day and my head has been filled with sweet images since! The image I posted above had a huge influence on what I thought the life of animals and insects was like as a child!
Also, if you haven't checked out Helen Dardik's blog, or website yet, you simply must go now! Her style is really spot on cuteness!

Well, today was supposed to be the first day of the rest of my life... but its been delayed. Again. Today was the scheduled popcorn ceiling and paint job day for the old studio room, BUT when the workmen came in they noticed something was wrong. The ceiling is still leaking juuuust a little bit and now I have to wait for more plumbing and then more plastering and drywalling and painting.

I had a feeling that it wasn't going to happen today. I hope I don't have to wait another 3 weeks, because that's just ridiculous!

Indie Public

I just joined up and I don't have any friends.
Is anyone out there?
Are you on Indie Public too?
Do you want to be my virtual friend?
I'll be waiting here:

B To The R O K E

Dudes! I am so poor. I emptied my wallet today and this quarter was all that was left! Oh, there was also a bunch of plastic debt, loads of recipts, and my Paul McCartney Starbucks card. Its empty, but I like having Paul around.

Anyhoo... I was going through the receipts and I found one for last Sunday's grocery shopping and I was charged $12 for a bag of cookies!!! They were fantastic cookies, but had I known I was overcharged $10 I would have savored them instead of wolfing them down in one sitting!!!

Why does this always happen to me? I have some sort of messed up poor-person-food-karma. The last time I was super broke and calling daddy for rent money, I was charged $20 for almonds!!! Its always grocery related... hmmmm. I should just stop eating. Naw. That's crazy talk!

You can make a donation here. Don't let me go hungry.

Lovely Lovely

The other day, I came across this super-cute-couldn't-be-more-perfect-shane-and-april-lamp on Anabela's etsy shop, fieldguided and I just had to let her know that her treasure hunting skills were off the hook! Shane and I are always on the lookout for things that look like us. I know its totally narcissistic, but its our hobby. Even though the little kiddies on the lamp are blond, they're still totally us. The round lollypop heads, the outfits, the knitting, the guitar! So us!

Anabela and I sent a few notes back and forth, and I explained how if I hadn't just spent a small fortune on supplies for my own etsy shop (keep an eye out!) I would be purchasing the lamp right then and there! Do you know what that sweet lady did? She offered to do a trade with me!

Thanks Anabela! I can't wait for it to arrive!

I Like Big Butts

I love the internet! Today, thanks to Grace at Design Sponge, I found one of the best things I have come across in a while! His name is Wilhelm Staehle, and I have a HUGE internet crush on him!

Grace lead me to Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre, and it is just so darn clever! Taking old romantic landscapes and inserting flat figures is one of my favourite styles. When its done well, its very exciting and inspiring! But I wanted more. I figured if he was capable of perfecting the recipe of antiquated imagery mixed with irreverent humor and just a touch of anachronism for good measure at Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre, then there must be more work out there. And I was right!

The next thing I came across was The Dollar Dreadful Family Library, which again employs the antiquated, the irreverent, and the subtle anachronisms but this time its in story format! I am absolutely smitten!

But wait! There's more! Wilhelm's design firm is called lonewolfblacksheep. The web portfolio is amazing! Some of the work is commercially based and others are just for fun! Yay! Design for fun!

Maybe It's The Wine Talking...

... but what is with these new Ikea fabrics?

They're great, right?

I've added these lovely seahorse brooches to my Etsy shop.

Well folks, its been a while hasn't it? I haven't felt much like blogging lately, but I have been trying to keep busy. I have been hatching some plans for new items in the store and brainstorming new themes to explore.

We've been dealing with some unsavory studio conditions for a few weeks now... and I don't know when the work will be finished. Its exasperating. There was a leak in our ceiling and behind one wall which resulted in a gaping hole expelling the foul odor of 100 year old wet plaster. Not very conducive to creativity for either of us. I don't know why its taking so long to get it all sorted, but that's what you get for renting I suppose. And so my work table is buried under all the gear cleared from one side of the room which makes it eternally difficult to get much work done. I've been taking the portable stuff into the livingroom, but I was really looking forward to sewing with my new dressmaker's mannequin which was acquired thanks to a friend at Christmas. (I know, right? Christmas!!!???) Diana is still in the box.

I'm not working right now, and this was supposed to be my time to create and really try to make a go of being self sufficient with my art/craft/fashion/etc. But so far...

I've been bummed.

Advertising Works!

Last night I came home, logged into Etsy, and what did I see? Little old me on the front page! So exciting! I only had a few moments before my earrings disappeared! That's the best part! Both pairs of the bella earrings that I had stocked were sold within minutes! Yay!
A big thank you goes out to thepairabirds (who's shop is filled with awesome illustrations, by the by) who picked the treasury, and of course to the lovely ladies who purchased my earrings! Thanks everyone!

Raindrops On Roses And Whiskers On Kittens

These are a few of my favourite things! I've just updated the shop with a whole new collection of soft, romantic earrings. The dew drops are my favourite! They are just so darn cute! I have a very limited amount of the vintage Indian beads that were used for this collection, so some of them are even "one of a kind" items!

Picnicking In The English Countryside

I have reluctantly posted this gorgeous tweed chapeau in my Etsy shop. I don't really want to part with it. I can just picture it coming in handy for some early spring or fall tea and cucumber sandwich picnics under a weeping willow next to a duck pond with a dapper young man. Ahhhhh. Romance and delusions.
